The local hardware store had some nice screw-on rings which were ideal for attaching the hooks to. These held up a wooden frame made of 1x6's, 1x3's and 1/4" plywood. This is what held the actual mattress.
For each corner of the bed, (with the exception of the "first" corner) there are two pullies above. One redirects the cable coming from that corner of the bed across towards the next set of pullies. The other pulley aligns the cable from the previous corner such that the two cables are headed in similar enough directions that they can be crimped together.
